Vassar Park Estate

With its awe-inspiring architecture and gloriously beautiful grounds, Vassar Park Estate is simply breathtaking. No wonder it’s the crown jewel among the Volk Estates’ collection of gems.

Nestled behind a towering hedge that surrounds the estate, the residence is truly a world unto itself. The cobblestone pathway and driveway leading into this exquisitely landcaped wonderland, with its manicured lawns, English rose gardens, grove of peach trees and Ashlar-pattern walkway winding around the perimeter, only serve as a backdrop for the property’s centerpiece — the dazzling neo-classical brick home with its beautiful lines and stately slate and copper roof.

From its 18th century European hand-pegged parquet wood floors, rare architectural imported elements, nine fireplaces, and towering three-story rotunda with a stained-glass dome, to its spectacular primary suite’s spa-quality bathroom with walk-in closets complete with sauna, coffee bar, fireplace, balcony, sitting room, and exercise room, the manor is the perfect marriage of timeless Old World elegance and the luxuries of today’s modern day world, including an elevator servicing the three main levels and basement.

The ground level’s public rooms — including living rooms, a solarium, a dining room and a library — are designed for entertaining the most prestigous guests, as well as simply retreating from the day’s hustle and bustle. To accommodate any occasion, the sophisticated culinary center with its state-of-the-art appliances is complemented by a butler’s pantry and a catering kitchen.

In addition to the guest suite on the ground level, there are three ensuite guestrooms on the second level, along with a children’s library and media room that is also ensuite and could be utilized as a sixth bedroom. The third level is its own private getaway for settling back with a good book. And there’s no need to leave for a break, thanks to a mini-kitchen and a powder room. Just for fun, the grounds also include a nine-hole putting green, two adorable playhouses and accommodations for seven estate-worthy vehicles.

Thanks to a team of award-winning designers and carefully curated materials, Vassar Park Estate is a magnificent showcase of world-class taste.

The Neighborhood: University Park

Originally University Park was just a gathering of homes surrounding a rural educational institution called Southern Methodist University, which was founded situated north of Dallas in 1915. In fact, the university supplied the homes with utility services. But by 1924 that came to a stop when the population outgrew the capabilities of the school and incorporated. Eventually, the cluster of houses would become one of the country's most affluent communities and gain international recognition as the future home of a presidential library.

Perhaps that is why University Park has always placed an extraordinarily high priority on education. Indeed, there are residents who have gone from kindergarten through doctorate and law school without ever leaving University Park. The town of more than 22,000 can boast that it has even beaten its neighbor Highland Park in national rankings as one of the country's finest public school systems.

However, University Park is far more than a township solely revolving around educational institutions. Within its 3.8 square miles, and due to its proximity to Dallas, University Park offers all the advantages of a major city, while maintaining a small-town charm. Its parks, with their beautifully maintained lakes, provide recreational facilities for everything from baseball and soccer to tennis, and even dog runs. To complement the lifestyle of the town's residents, Snider Plaza with its one-of-a-kind petite boutiques and restaurants was developed cattycorner from SMU in 1927.

In addition to these educational and business services, University Park, though limited in space, boasts seven religious institutions including Highland Park United Methodist Church and Highland Park Presbyterian Church, homes of the largest Methodist and Presbyterian congregations in the nation.

University Park has indeed come a long way from its origins as a bedroom community for SMU. Today the residences of University Park range from charming renovated cottages built in the early 20th century to the magnificent Volk Estate mansions with their expansive acreage and their prestigious owners.
