Charming Cotswold Cottage in University Park
Set across .517 acres in University Park, 3624 Lovers Lane presents a rare expression of English Cotswold architecture, positioned along the storied Culture Gulch pond where art, landscape, and history quietly converge. Framed by mature trees and layered landscaping by Lambert’s, the property unfolds through charming garden paths and a sense of seclusion rarely found in the city.
A Mariposa stone walk-up leads to the front entry, where swan motif stained glass windows sourced from Belgium set a distinctive tone. Inside, repurposed stained glass from historic homes, original glass door knobs, and hand-painted details create a home rich in character and provenance. The formal living room centers around a fireplace and opens to the dining room, where views of the surrounding gardens and pond bring a natural sense of calm.
Just beyond, a cozy den, equally suited as a study and a billiard room complete with wet bar and doors opening directly to the gardens. Stone walls, water views, and layered greenery create a setting that feels both intimate and transportive. The family room forms the heart of the home, anchored by a fireplace and designed for connection, flowing seamlessly into the kitchen and outdoor living areas.
The kitchen is expansive and thoughtfully designed, offering generous workspace, a walk-in pantry, and seamless connection to the surrounding living spaces. Positioned to overlook the front grounds, the space opens directly to the covered patio, pool, and outdoor entertaining areas, creating a natural extension of daily living. Throughout the main level, each room is oriented to capture the setting, from curated garden views to the quiet presence of the pond beyond.
Upstairs, the primary suite offers a private retreat with its own fireplace, a spacious bath with soaking tub and separate shower, and dual closets with abundant storage and windows overlooking the property. Each additional bedroom is appointed with an ensuite bath, ensuring comfort and privacy throughout. Two guest suites share a private balcony overlooking the pool and grounds, while one of these bedrooms offers flexibility as an optional studio, exercise room, or playroom.
A beautiful library with built-ins, and a pocket bar with beverage refrigerator provides a flexible gathering space, complemented by an upstairs utility room.
The outdoor experience is equally considered. The pool and spa are surrounded by stonework, lush landscaping, and multiple seating areas, including a dedicated pool bath. A stone fountain anchors one of several outdoor living spaces, while a fully equipped outdoor kitchen supports effortless entertaining beneath the covered patio with retractable screens. Garden pathways lead to a secluded herb garden and charming greenhouse, creating a true gardener’s retreat.
Additional features include a three-car garage, separate carport, and Class 4 DaVinci roof.
3624 Lovers Lane is a character-rich estate where architecture, landscape, and cultural legacy exist in quiet harmony.
The Neighborhood: University Park
Originally University Park was just a gathering of homes surrounding a rural educational institution called Southern Methodist University, which was founded situated north of Dallas in 1915. In fact, the university supplied the homes with utility services. But by 1924 that came to a stop when the population outgrew the capabilities of the school and incorporated. Eventually, the cluster of houses would become one of the country's most affluent communities and gain international recognition as the future home of a presidential library.
Perhaps that is why University Park has always placed an extraordinarily high priority on education. Indeed, there are residents who have gone from kindergarten through doctorate and law school without ever leaving University Park. The town of more than 22,000 can boast that it has even beaten its neighbor Highland Park in national rankings as one of the country's finest public school systems.
However, University Park is far more than a township solely revolving around educational institutions. Within its 3.8 square miles, and due to its proximity to Dallas, University Park offers all the advantages of a major city, while maintaining a small-town charm. Its parks, with their beautifully maintained lakes, provide recreational facilities for everything from baseball and soccer to tennis, and even dog runs. To complement the lifestyle of the town's residents, Snider Plaza with its one-of-a-kind petite boutiques and restaurants was developed cattycorner from SMU in 1927.
In addition to these educational and business services, University Park, though limited in space, boasts seven religious institutions including Highland Park United Methodist Church and Highland Park Presbyterian Church, homes of the largest Methodist and Presbyterian congregations in the nation.
University Park has indeed come a long way from its origins as a bedroom community for SMU. Today the residences of University Park range from charming renovated cottages built in the early 20th century to the magnificent Volk Estate mansions with their expansive acreage and their prestigious owners.
